Richardson and Thomas Lead UWF Over Southern Arkansas

MILTON, FLA. – UWF topped Southern Arkansas 85-76 in tonight's feature of the UWF Hoop Classic 2 at Bo Johnson Center on the Pensacola Junior College Milton campus. In earlier action, Harding defeated Union College of Kentucky, 107-102.

The first half saw two ties and four lead changes. The largest advantage was held by Southern Arkansas of 9-3 at the 13:27 mark. UWF's 90.9% (10-for-11) free throw performance helped them to a 33-30 lead at the break. Two Argonauts were already in double-digit scoring. Bryan Richardson had 14 points, and Maurice Thomas posted 10.

The Argonauts blew up in the second half. UWF led by as much as 18 points, 55-37 at 13:57. SAU threatened revenge when they came within four points, 78-74, with a little over one minute left in the contest. Four good free throws by Josh Sullivan, and a free throw and dunk by James Vilsaint sealed the win for West Florida.

Richardson ended the night with a career high 30 points followed by Thomas with 21. Josh Sullivan dished out eight assists, and Vilsaint had 15 points and three blocks. Vilsaint also led UWF rebounding with seven boards.

Southern Arkansas was led by Brandon Williams with 12 points, and Trad Williams scored 11. The Muleriders had a rebounding edge over UWF of 52-37, 24 offensive to UWF’s nine. Brandon White and Williams led rebounding for SAU with seven boards each.

Tomorrow, Southern Arkansas faces Union in the 6:00 p.m. game of the tournament, and West Florida plays Harding at 8:00 p.m.
