Savage Highlights UWF Alumni at Men's Soccer Autograph Signing

Sept. 10, 2008

PENSACOLA, Fla. - University of West Florida graduate and current Major League Soccer player Keith Savage will be one of four UWF men's soccer alumni in attendance for an autograph signing between the women's and men's soccer games at the UWF Soccer Complex on Friday, September 12.

The event coincides with an important early-season match against regional rival Rollins College. The West Florida (3-0-1) and Rollins (3-1-0) men's teams have faced each other seven times this decade, and all but one game have been decided by one goal, including two overtime finishes. UWF holds a record of 5-2 against the Tars over that span, including wins in the last two meetings.

On the women's side, UWF (4-0-0) and Rollins (3-0-0) will face each other in a match-up featuring two of the top-ranked teams in the nation. West Florida jumped ahead to No. 5 in this week's poll, while Rollins enters the weekend with a program-best ranking of No. 14.

Savage, a rookie midfielder for Chivas USA based in Los Angeles, Calif., will be joined by fellow UWF alumni Felipe Lawall, Jimmy McHenry, and Nick Mroczkowski at the event. Lawall played for the Orlando Sharks of the Major Indoor Soccer League in 2007-08, and he also was joined by McHenry and Mroczkowski on the Panama City Pirates in the Premier Development League in the summer of 2008, which was led by UWF Head Coach Bill Elliott.

Savage was the first pick by Chivas USA in the 2007 MLS Draft, and he has received more playing time as the season has progressed. The Gulf Breeze High School graduate has appeared in six games, three of which he started, and has recorded one assist.

The event will take place at approximately 7:00 p.m. CT following the UWF women's game against Rollins scheduled to kick off at 5:00 p.m. CT. The UWF men will then face Rollins at 7:30 p.m. CT. Fans are encouraged to bring pens and items to be autographed, and the first 100 in line at the signing table will receive a special flyer with photos and information on the players involved.
