Ramsey Wins Pitching Duel in Argos Victory
PENSACOLA, FLA - Sixteenth ranked West Florida and NAIA rival Mobile breezed through seven-and-a-half innings of scoreless baseball before the Argos broke the silence. Starting pitcher Kyle Ramsey pitched a four-hitter through eight innings, and Josh Loosier made a loud return to action with a game winning pinch hit single that scored two runs with two outs in the bottom of the eighth as UWF prevailed, 2-0.
Loosier had been held out of the line-up since the season opener with a foot injury. Owen Davis reached safely at first on an infield throwing error with one out in the eighth. Brian Rodgers followed with a single throught the left side. Both Rodgers and Davis advanced on a passed ball, and Loosier scored both runs on a single up the middle.
Ramsey (3-3) struck out nine Ram batters, and walked none. Closer Fred Fosson recorded his ninth save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth inning. Fosson is one save away from tieing the single season save record at UWF set by Jeremy Noegel in 2003. Reliever Jesse Luker was saddled with the tough luck loss in 4 1/3 innings. He allowed one earned run on two hits. Mobile starter Jon Kalb pitched 3 2/3 innings of scoreless work. He allowed two hits, with three walks, and three strikeouts.
There were no extra base hits in the game. Jake Whisenhunt, Brian Rodgers, Ryan Stropolo, and Loosier each singled for UWF. Eduardo Davila led Mobile by going 2-for-4, and a stolen base. West Florida stranded the bases loaded in the third and fourth innings.
West Florida improves to 24-14, while Mobile drops to 24-12. The Argos resume to Gulf South Conference play this weekend for a three game series at West Georgia.
