Lady Argos Finish Regular Season Ranked No. 1
Shaneka Gordon (Photo courtesy of Ron Besser)PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West of West Florida women’s soccer team will head into this weekend’s Gulf South Conference Tournament not only as number one seed in the tournament but the top ranked Division II team in the country. The Argos claim the top spot for the fifth consecutive week after a convincing 10-0 shutout over Lambuth University in the season finale.
The Argos match against Lamuth was a historic match on the individual and team levels. In the match the Argo’s Shakira Duncan (Kingston, Jamaica/Darton College) broke UWF’s single season record for points and goals with 65 and 27 respectively. Also as a team the Lady Argos surpassed last season’s record total for points in a season (260) and goals scored (96) in their final regular season contest.
Friday marks the beginning of the GSC Soccer Tournament held at Brosnaham Park here in Pensacola. The Argos look to defend last season’s championship as they take on No. 4 seed Christian Brothers in the semifinals at 1:30pm CT Friday afternoon.
