Box Score

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Senior guard Jonathan Jackson (Pensacola, Fla./Johnson County CC) shot 8-11 from the field and scored a game high 19 points to lead the West Florida men’s basketball team to a 69-59 victory at Flagler on Saturday night.  The win marked the second for UWF in as many nights, improving the Argonauts’ record to 2-1 while Flagler fell to 1-1 with the loss.

Jackson had a solid overall night, adding three rebounds and five assists to his 19 points.  Senior forward Christopher Evans (Fort Worth, Tex./Hawaii Pacific) picked up the first double-double for an Argonaut this season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Both teams came out slow, as Flagler went into halftime ahead 29-28.  The teams traded leads throughout the opening period, with neither team gaining more than a five-point advantage.

The teams went back-and-forth into the second half as well, and it was not until the 7:44 mark that UWF started to pull away.  Junior forward Ervin Herron (Memphis, Tenn./Bevill State CC) started a 13-3 run with a layup, leading to an 11-point lead at 56-45 with 4:54 on the clock.  Flagler responded and narrowed the gap to five points with a free throw by Chad July, but that was the closest the Saints would get as UWF pulled away for the 10-point victory.

UWF took advantage of a poor shooting night for Flagler, as the Saints finished at 34.0 percent and were 1-15 from three-point territory.  The Argonauts shot 42.9 percent from the field and a strong 15-20 (75 percent) from the free throw line.  The teams were even in rebounds, with both finishing at 39.

D.J. Ferguson scored 19 to lead Flagler, and he was 7-11 from the field.  July also finished in double digits at 12 points.

The Argonauts will return to Pensacola for the UWF Thanksgiving Classic at home on November 27-29.  West Florida will face Lynn on Friday at 2:00 p.m. and Montevallo on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.  For information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
