Dustin Lawley Named GSC Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – West Florida third baseman Dustin Lawley captures the Argos first Gulf South Conference Player of the Week award as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. It marks the first time an Argonaut has won the award in over a year and is Lawley’s first career conference honor.
In six games this past week the Bessemer, Ala. native recorded five multi-hit games while plating a run in all but one contest. On the week he batted .615 (13-for-24) with six runs scored and eight runs batted in, including three doubles and two homeruns. In the Argos opener against West Georgia he blasted a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the ninth to put the Argos in front and seal a 6-5 victory.
On the week he recorded five multiple hit games and is currently riding a seven game hit streak. He has now tallied 13 multiple hit games on the season which is one off the team high of 14. He currently leads the team in batting (.392), on-base percentage (.464) and stolen bases (14) and is second on the team with a .536 slugging percentage and 38 hits.
The Argonauts are back in action this games against the University of Mobile and West Alabama. Tuesday afternoon the Argos will host Mobile at 5 p.m. at Jim Spooner Field in a non-conference matchup before hitting the road for a showdown with GSC rival West Alabama on Friday and Saturday.
