BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 9 West Florida men’s tennis team landed three players on the All-Gulf South Conference team, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.  Sophomores Kevin Ducros (Aix-en-Provence, France) and Andrey Pozhidaev (Sochi, Russia) were repeat selections, while Leandro Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Antonio Afonso) joined them on the All-GSC team and was also named GSC East Division Freshman of the Year.

Ducros, last year’s GSC East Division Freshman of the Year, is having a stellar season.  The sophomore has played No. 1 singles and doubles all season, and he holds a 13-4 record and singles and a 16-5 in doubles play with his partner Ferreira.  Ducros, ranked No. 9 in the country in singles and No. 4 in the region, holds four singles wins in over Division II ranked opponents.  He and Ferreira, the No. 5 doubles team in the country and No. 3 in the region, also hold four wins over ranked opponents.

In singles play, Ferreira is ranked No. 19 in the country and No. 9 in the region, and he holds a 10-8 record as the Argos’ primary No. 2 player.  The freshman is the third Argonaut in a row to be selected GSC East Division Freshman of the Year following Ducros in 2009 and current junior Patrick Bateman (Apopka, Fla./Seminole CC) in 2008.

Pozhidaev has also excelled this season, holding a record of 16-2 in singles play while playing primarily at the No. 3 position.  The sophomore has five singles wins over ranked opponents and is No. 22 in the country and No. 10 in the region, and he and doubles partner Mike Lue (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Augustine Catholic HS) are ranked No. 19 in the region.  Pozhidaev is 11-10 in doubles play at the No. 2 spot.

The Argonauts were most recently ranked No. 7 in the NCAA regional rankings, and the top 12 teams from the South Region will advance to NCAA postseason play.  The NCAA Tournament will begin at campus sites on May 6-8, and the Argonauts will wait on the official announcement from the NCAA about the tournament field.  For information on all UWF Athletics, visit
