UWF to Host Summer Sports Camps

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida will again be hosting numerous summer sports camps through the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics this year, including baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, and volleyball. Camps will take place throughout the summer, and information and flyers for each posted are posted online at www.GoArgos.com as they become available.
BASEBALL
The baseball program will be holding a Super Skills Bonanza at Jim Spooner Field at Pelican Park on June 5th, allowing area high school baseball players to showcase their skills to the UWF coaching staff. The select camp is limited to 40 players, based on a first-come, first serve admission. The camp will consist of a full day, professional-style workout and costs $70 dollars.
The West Florida Baseball Skills Academy will be for younger players, running from June 14th-18th for players ages 6-12. Each day of camp will be held from 8:30am-12pm with emphasis placed each day on baseball fundamentals. The advanced camp for ages 13-15 will be June 21-25, during the same 8:30am-12pm time frame. MEN’S BASKETBALL
The UWF men’s basketball team will hold two camp sessions for boys, with the first beginning June 21-25 for upcoming juniors and seniors. The July 12th-16th camp will be available for ages 7-15, with all camps being held 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily. The camps will feature individual skill development, along with team competitions. WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Women’s basketball has announced their plans for team camp this summer, but has cancelled individual camp. The team camp will take place June 18-20 in the UWF Field House and costs $300 for varsity teams and $200 for junior varsity/freshman teams. In addition, there will be a $15 charge per player to cover officiating fees. Each varsity team will play six games, while junior varsity/freshman teams will play five games. MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SOCCER
The men’s and women’s soccer programs will hold two camps for boys and girls, the first for ages 13 and up on July 23-25. To participate in day camp, the cost is $195, or $295 for overnight camp. The Elite Camp is for advanced players looking for additional training, and offers a chance for players to work with college coaches and interact with college players.
The Indoor/Outdoor Camp will begin July 26-29 for 7-13 year olds. Campers can choose between half day camp for $125 or full day camp for $175. MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TENNIS

VOLLEYBALL
West Florida volleyball will be hosting several individual and team camps, beginning with a Youth Evening Camp for boys and girls 4th-8th grade, running from July 25-28. Evening camp will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. each night, and costs $80. The camp is designed for a young age group, using lighter balls for maximum learning. For older players, there will be a General Skills Camp for 9th-12th grade girls on July 26th-29th for $200.
For more experienced players, the High School Advanced Camp is available to high school players who have had a year of varsity or two years of club experience. The camp will be held in more of a collegiate practice environment during August 1-4 with a $260 cost for commuter campers. Those who wish to stay overnight can register for a $360 cost. Also, a Setter/Hitter/Libero camp for 9th-12th graders will take place on August 1st for position specific skill improvement. Cost is $75 for the single day, including camp and lunch.
Volleyball High School Team Camp is for high school varsity and junior varsity teams only, during July 29-July 31. The session will focus more on team strategies rather than individual skills, and costs $220 for commuters and $290 for residents. Costs are prices for players on teams with at least eight players.
