PENSACOLA, Fla. – As part of the continuing process of the University of West Florida Athletics Visioning Team, UWF has partnered with EMO/ARCHITECTS, INC. out of Tallahassee, Fla. to conduct a facilities master plan for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.  UWF President Judith Bense included completing a facilities master plan by September 2010 as part of the timeline outlined in her response to the Visioning Team’s recommendations.

“We are excited to have EMO from Tallahassee as a partner,” said UWF Athletic Director Dave Scott.  “This will be a fun process.  It will give us the opportunity to dream about what could be, and hopefully what will be in the future.”

The process will begin this summer with EMO working with UWF Athletics staff to assess the current condition of athletic facilities.  Two sites that will be evaluated are the UWF Sports Complex, which includes home facilities for the UWF baseball, soccer, and softball teams near the east campus entrance, and University Park, which includes the UWF Field House and tennis complex.  The second task to be completed by EMO will be to conduct interviews, surveys, and interactive workshops with coaches, staff, student-athletes, and other key stakeholders.

Based upon the results of the assessment and interviews, EMO will provide a programming analysis with emphasis on the four facilities determined to be significant projects, and those four facilities will focused on visually in the concept diagram.  EMO will then provide figures for a proposed capital and operating budget to UWF, and the final step will be to complete the master plan, including all final concept drawings and project maps.

“As the university continues to grow, we want to make sure we are planning appropriately for where future athletic facilities will be located on UWF’s campus,” said Scott.  “A successful organization always has a plan for the future.”
