West Florida Baseball Signs Six Players for 2012
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida baseball team and head coach Mike Jeffcoat has announced the signing of six players to a National Letter of Intent to join the Argonauts for the 2012 season. The group of newcomers will include two junior college transfers and four freshmen.
Richie Long, a 6-1 first baseman/outfielder from Central Mississippi Community College, and Ben Bridges, a 6-2 infielder/outfielder from Northwest Florida State College, will be transferring to UWF and playing for the Argonauts in 2012.
“Richie Long should be an impact player for us at first base or left field with his bat,” said Jeffcoat. “He hit 14 homeruns as a freshman and should bat in the middle of the lineup. Ben Bridges is a very versatile player and a good athlete.”
The four high school signees include a duo from Winter Park High School: 6-0 left-handed pitcher Jordan Delorenzo and 6-1 third baseman Michael Tomlinson. Rounding out the high school signees are Bryan Waller, a 6-3 right-handed pitcher from Baldwin High School, and Dustin Sanders, a 5-11 center fielder out of Tate High School.
“Tomlinson has very good power with the bat and should have the ability to compete for playing time right away,” continued Jeffcoat. “Delorenzo and Waller both have good arms, and they will add depth to our staff right away. We are very pleased with this early signing class of young men.”
The Argonauts will open the 2011 season at home on Feb. 1 against Montevallo. For information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
