PENSACOLA, Fla. – A stellar start to the season for the No. 16 West Florida baseball team highlighted last week in UWF Athletics, as the Argonauts swept doubleheaders over Montevallo and Rollins to start the season 4-0. The UWF basketball teams were also in action, as the men’s team picked up a Gulf South Conference win over West Georgia at home on Thursday. The spring teams continue to start their seasons, as the UWF softball and tennis teams open up at home this weekend.

ARGONAUTS OF THE WEEK

Kenny Stalls
Baseball
Junior First Baseman

First baseman Kenny Stalls (Jacksonville, Fla./Central Florida CC) made a big impact in his first week as an Argonaut, going 8-13 (.615) at the plate with three doubles and two home runs. Stalls was especially impressive on opening day against Montevallo, blasting home runs in his first at bat in both games of the doubleheader. The Jacksonville native also scored five runs and drove in 11 for the week.

Men’s Basketball
Junior Forward

Mike Whisman (Kissimmee, Fla./Celebration HS) posted a strong week for the UWF men’s basketball team, scoring in double digits twice and averaging over 13 points per game. On Thursday against West Georgia, the junior set new career highs in points (20) and rebounds (10) in his first career double-double, and he also scored 16 points on Monday at North Alabama. Whisman shot 19-25 from the field in three games for a 76 percent field goal percentage, and he holds a 62.7 field goal percentage on the season.
