No. 5 Women's Tennis Defeats No. 10 Rollins, 5-4
Taylor Brewster Gets Victories over Ranked Opponents in Singles and Doubles

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 5 University of West Florida women’s tennis team (3-2) defeated No. 10 Rollins (3-1), 5-4, in a neutral site match in Valdosta, Ga., today. Taylor Brewster recorded a victory over a ranked opponent in singles, and she teamed with Caitlyn Baines to secure a doubles victory over a nationally ranked opponent. The loss was Rollins’ first of the spring season.
UWF took the 2-1 lead after winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Caitlyn Baines (Ft. Walton Beach) and Taylor Brewster (Fergus, Ontario) teamed at No. 1 to defeat Margaret Junker and Kayli Ragsdale, 8-2. Junker and Ragsdale are currently ranked No. 24 in the nation. Sophomores Luiza Sonnervig (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Jacqueline March (Santa Rosa Beach) recorded an 8-4 victory over Lisa Loft and Ashley Rosenberg at No. 2. The Argonauts suffered a loss at the No. 3 position, where Mariana Sonnervig (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Hannah Durham (Hammond, La.) dropped a 4-8 match to Roshni Luthra and Stefania Tkach.
In singles, Brewster defeated No. 26 Luthra, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1. Junker defeated Baines at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3. Luiza Sonnervig captured a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Loft at No. 3. Tkach defeated Mariana Sonnervig, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4. March recorded a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Rosenberg at No. 5. Rollins’ Mariana Salvador defeated UWF’s Naomi Higa (Córdoba, Argentina) at No. 6, 6-1, 6-4.
The UWF men’s and women’s tennis teams will travel back to Valdosta, Ga., next weekend for three tough matches each. On Feb. 25th, UWF will face Armstrong Atlantic at 1 p.m. The Armstrong Atlantic women are currently the No. 1 team in the country. On the 26th at 10 a.m., the Argos will face Barry. The Barry women are currently listed at No. 4. On the 27th at 10 a.m., the Argonauts will face Valdosta State in their first GSC match of the season. The Argonaut men will be challenged by the top three teams in the country, with Barry listed at No. 1, Valdosta State coming in at No. 2 and Armstrong Atlantic currently at No. 3.
