No. 5 UWF Men's Tennis Team Defeats No. 25 Hawaii Pacific, 5-4

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The No. 5 University of West Florida men’s tennis team (12-5, 2-1 GSC) extended its winning streak to eight with a 5-4 victory over No. 25 Hawaii Pacific (7-5) today in Las Vegas, Nev. The match is the first of three matches the UWF men will play in Las Vegas this week.

UWF won two of the three doubles matches. At the No. 1 position, Leandro Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Andrey Pozhidaev (Sochi, Russia) defeated Ari Davis and Matiss Libietis, 9-8. Domenico Sano (Macaray, Venezuela) and Jose Carlos Tolentino (Lima, Peru) defeated Sebastian Bader and Ji Hoon Heo, 8-6, at the No. 2 position. Hawaii Pacific tallied a victory at the No. 3 position, where Petr Michnev and JC Pauli defeated Lukas Larsson (Ystad, Sweden) and Mike Lue (Richmond Hill, Ontario), 8-6.

Hawaii Pacific tied the match at 2-2 when Libietis defeated Sean Gunnels (Mobile, Ala.), 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 4 singles position. Lue defeated Pauli, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5 to give the Argos the 3-2 lead. Heo defeated Tolentino, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 3. Sano recorded a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Wilhelm Irwe at No. 6 as the score became 4-3, UWF. Bader defeated No. 20 Pozhidaev in three sets, 7-6, 5-7, 7-6, at No. 2. UWF clinched the win as No. 15 Ferreira defeated Michnev, 7-6, 7-5, at the No. 1 line.

The Argonaut men will play two more matches in Las Vegas. Tomorrow morning, UWF will face Fresno Pacific. On Wednesday, UWF will face No. 10 Abilene Christian in a neutral site match. Results and recaps from these matches will be available on GoArgos.com.
