Argonaut Weekly - Week 26 Recap

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida tennis teams are in the heart of their seasons, and both are currently ranked No. 5 in the nation. The UWF men’s team has won seven straight matches, including five last week, while the women’s team went 4-1 last week and holds a three-game win streak. Meanwhile, the No. 4 UWF baseball team kept rolling last week, sweeping a three-game set at home over Arkansas Tech.
ARGONAUTS OF THE WEEK
Andrey Pozhidaev
Junior
Men’s Tennis
Pozhidaev (Sochi, Russia) tallied four singles victories and five doubles wins last week as the No. 5-ranked Argonauts defeated West Alabama, No. 30 BYU-Hawaii, No. 16 Ouachita Baptist, No. 49 Alabama-Huntsville and No. 20 Cameron. Pozhidaev is ranked No. 20 in the nation in singles and No. 10 in the South Region. Highlighting his four singles victories was a 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 victory over No. 28-ranked Till Heilshorn of Ouachita Baptist. He also had a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Patrick Eichler of Cameron, who is the No.10-ranked played in the South Central Region. In doubles, Pozhidaev and partner Leandro Ferriera went 5-0 for the week, playing at the No. 1 doubles position for all matches. Their wins included an 8-3 victory over Tobias Kuhlmann and Till Heilshorn of Ouachita Baptist, the No. 16 doubles tandem in the nation.

Senior Right Fielder
Baseball
Pron (Daphne, Ala./Daphne HS) has continued to lead the UWF baseball team offensively, hitting .425 at the plate with a team-high 11 doubles and 22 RBIs. He also ranks in the top 10 in the GSC in batting average, on-base percentage (.494) and slugging percentage (.712). Pron is the program’s all-time leader in RBIs, standing at 140 in his four-year career. The right-fielder has also been steady defensively, not making an error all season. In Sunday’s win, Pron saved Daniel Vargas-Vila’s shutout bid with a diving catch to clinch the win in the ninth.
