PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 5 University of West Florida men’s tennis team (14-8, 2-1 GSC) recorded an 7-2 victory over No. 9 Georgia College & State (9-5) today at the Ralph “Skeeter” Carson Tennis Complex on the UWF campus. The Argos are now 2-0 against ranked opponents for the week, having defeated No. 15 Drury, 6-3, Tuesday in Pensacola.

West Florida won all three doubles matches. At the No. 1 position, Leandro Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Andrey Pozhidaev (Sochi, Russia) defeated Jermone Leborgne and Johan Wadstein, 8-5. Sean Gunnels (Mobile, Ala.) and Domenico Sano (Macaray, Venezuela) recorded an 8-3 victory over Leo Bernardes and Tyler Franks at the No. 2 line. At No. 3, Argonauts Lukas Larsson (Ystad, Sweden) and Mike Lue (Richmond Hill, Ontario) defeated Robert Angelucci and Tobias Rausch, 9-8.

The Argonaut men won four of the singles matches. At the No. 2 position, Pozhidaev, the No. 20 singles player in the country, defeated Wadstein, 6-3, 6-2. Gunnels tallied a 7-6, 4-6, 10-5 victory over Rausch at No. 3. At the No. 4 line, Lue defeated Bernardes, 6-3, 6-2. Sano dropped just two games as he defeated Franks, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5. Georgia College recorded a point at the No. 1 position, where Leborgne defeated UWF’s Ferreira, 7-5, 6-2. Leborgne is the No. 16 player in the country and No. 6 in the Southeast Region, while Ferreira is No. 15 nationally and No. 9 in the South Region. Georgia College’s other singles point came at the No. 6 position, where Wictor Andersson defeated Larsson 6-4, 6-4.
