Argos Ranked No. 19 in Preseason AVCA Poll
UWF Faces a Pair Top 10 Teams in First Week of 2011 Season
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of West Florida volleyball team has been selected No. 19 in the preseason edition of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ top 25 poll, it was announced today. UWF is the only team from the Gulf South Conference to earn a spot on the list.
The Argonauts play four teams currently ranked in the top 15 on the AVCA poll with three being played within the first week of the season. UWF faces off against No. 14 Indianapolis and No. 10 Hillsdale on back-to-back days in the UIndy Invitational Tournament starting Sept. 2, and then play No. 5 Washburn on Sept. 9. No. 4 Tampa will take part in the UWF Regional Crossover Tournament and will play the Argos on Oct. 15.
Head Coach Melissa Wolter led her squad to a 30-7 overall record in 2010 that ended with a trip to the South Regional Finals. The Argos won their third straight GSC title as well last season with a 9-1 record in league play.
UWF was also picked in the GSC Preseason Coaches’ poll to take its fourth straight conference title.
