Paterson Earns Top 10 Finish With Second Round 79

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The West Florida women’s golf team improved its score by seven strokes in the second round to finish in fifth place at the Marjorie Whitney Invitational hosted by Queens (N.C.) at the TPC Sawgrass Dye Course on Tuesday. The Argonauts (341-334 - 675) were led by freshman Aimee Paterson (Hampshire, England), who posted a top 10 finish at 15-over par (80-79 - 159).

Paterson’s 79 in Tuesday’s second round pushed her into the top 10, and she finished 10 strokes behind individual champion Elia Folch Sola (74-75 - 149) of Seminole State. Senior Jenny Lines (Birmingham, Ala./Spring Hill) finished tied for 21st after carding 80 on Tuesday (87-80 - 167), and she was followed by freshman Camila Sevillano (Cali, Colombia) in 27th place (85-85 - 170).

“The course was playing very difficult today,” said Lines. “The rough was extremely hard to get out of, but the girls played amazing for the conditions. We all played fairly well against some hard competition out there today.”

Junior Agustina Cocha (Salta, Argentina/Colegio Santa Maria) finished by herself in 37th place (89-90 - 179), and rounding out the Argonauts’ lineup was sophomore Hillary Miller (Greensburg, Ind./Greensburg Community HS) in 46th place.

Barry (320-310 - 630) took the team title after a tournament-best 310 in the second round, finishing seven strokes ahead of Saint Leo (320-317 - 637).
