Shetty to Highlight Honorees at PSA Annual Awards Banquet
Six Student-Athletes to Receive Special Achievement Awards

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida will once again have a strong presence at the COX Pensacola Sports Association (PSA) Annual Awards Banquet, as six UWF student-athletes will be recognized as special achievement winners in the banquet on Thursday, March 15 at Sanders Beach Community Center at 6 p.m. Along with the six individual student-athletes, Argonauts baseball head coach Mike Jeffcoat and the entire 2011 UWF national championship baseball team will be recognized as well.
Professional golfer Bubba Watson and Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin will headline the event as winners of the PSA Professional Athlete of the Year Award. Alabama running back and Heisman Trophy finalist Trent Richardson will be honored with the PSA Amateur Athlete of the Year Award. The guest speaker at this year’s banquet will be PSA Hall of Fame inductee and former NFL linebacker Derrick Brooks.
The UWF special achievement winners will include outfielder Greg Pron and pitcher Daniel Vargas-Vila from the 2011 national championship baseball team. UWF tennis stars Taylor Brewster, Leandro Ferreira and Andrey Pozhidaev will be honored after their All-American seasons in 2011, and four-time Gulf South Conference Player of the Year Bhavna Shetty from the Argonauts women’s golf team will be the school’s sixth special achievement honoree.
