PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida baseball team completed the series sweep over Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday with a 5-3 win in game one and a 4-1 win in game two. With the pair of wins the Argonauts improve to 18-6 overall and 11-2 at Jim Spooner Field

In game one the Delta Devils jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a RBI single by Seth Milliorn with the second run crossing on a bases loaded walk. The Argos took the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring four runs on a two RBI double by Dustin Saulmon (Panama City, Fla./Alabama Southern CC (A. Crawford Mosley HS) and RBI hits by Billy O'Connor (West Palm Beach, Fla./Broward College (Wellington & American Heritage HS) and Eric Sauls (Tallahassee, Fla./Ole Miss (North Florida Christian HS).

MVSU cut into the Argos lead, 4-3, on a RBI single by Joseph Germaine in the top of the seventh inning. UWF added an insurance run, 5-3, in the bottom of the eighth inning on a RBI single to left field by Sauls. Bobby Parker (Tallahassee, Fla./Alabama Southern CC (Lawton Chiles HS) came on in the ninth inning and secured the victory for UWF, 5-3, picking up his 10 save of the season.

Dan Husum (Panama City, Fla./Wallace State CC (Bay HS) got the start for the Argos and tossed 1.1 innings allowing two runs on four hits while striking out two. Scott Laughlin (Tallahassee, FL/Tallahassee CC (Chiles HS) picked up his first win of the season in relief hurling 4.2 innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out six. Drew Bryson (Cullman, Ala./Wallace State-Hanceville CC (Cullman HS) followed out of the bullpen and threw two shutout innings fanning two batters. Parker, now tied fourth for single season saves at UWF, hurled a shutout hitless ninth inning. MVSU’s Trey Lacy received the loss allowing four runs on three hits in 5.2 innings of work.

The Argos struck first in game two scoring a run in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI single to right field by Richie Long (Carthage, Miss./East Central CC (Carthage HS). UWF added another run to their lead, 2-0, when Garrett Flynn (Davie, Fla./Sagemont Upper School) scored on a wild pitch. MVSU broke up the no-hit bid 4.2 innings into the ball game with a solo homerun over the left field wall by Candler Thomas, cutting into the Argos lead 2-1.

West Florida added another run, 3-1, to their lead on some aggressive base running by Dustin Saulmon (Panama City, Fla./Alabama Southern CC (A. Crawford Mosley HS), taking advantage of a throwing error by the catcher after stealing third. UWF tacked on another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a RBI sacrifice bunt by Blake Barber (LaGrange, Ga./Shelton State CC (Troup HS) to score Korey Domenick (Festus, Mo./Mineral Area (Festus HS). West Florida would hold on to win 4-1.

Josh Tanski (Apopka, Fla./Pensacola State College (Lake Brantley) got the start on the hill for UWF and went the distance picking up his second win. Tanski allowed one run on three hits while striking out six. MVSU starter Barrett Baxley received the loss allowing one run on one hit in three innings of work.
