JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the second weekend in a row, the West Florida men’s cross country team participated in a spring track meet that was delayed by weather. At the University of North Florida Best Western Invitational, the second day of events was backed up for more than two hours due to thunderstorm activity. The Argos turned in race performances in the 1500 meters and the 5000 meter run.

Freshman Cody Haden (Navarre) turned in the top performance this weekend with a personal best in the 5000 meter race. Haden was clocked in 16:00 minutes for the 3.1 mile race on the track, which is 12 and a half laps. He was 13th overall in the event in which 31 athletes raced to the finish line. Mike Strasser of North Florida captured the race in 14:58.

In the 1500 meter races, Argonaut Roman Kowalski (Pensacola) had UWF’s best finish of 4:06, which was 21st overall of the 45 runners in the event. Kowalski was leading his heat at the start of the gun lap but was outkicked in the most exciting heat of the event as the top seven in the heat were within three seconds. Dominique Sykes (Orange Park) was in the same heat and finished with a 4:12 race performance.

Freshman Brandon Skeie (West Creek, N.J.) also raced in the 1500 meters in a different heat. He clocked a 4:21 for the event. Meanwhile, Cameron Dickerson of North Florida had the top race time of 3:50 for the race.

West Florida will race next at South Alabama Invitational on April 14th in Mobile, Ala. A recap of West Florida’s participation in the South Alabama Invitational will be available on GoArgos.com. For information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
