Argonaut Weekly: Week 29 Recap

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 10 West Florida baseball team continued GSC play, going 2-1 against Alabama-Huntsville needing a home run in extra innings to clinch the series victory. The softball team’s completed the season sweep over conference rival Christian Brothers, but then dropped both games against Delta State. The men’s tennis team won its 11th straight with victories over 4 teams ranked in the top 25, No. 19 UC San Diego, No. 17 Grand Canyon, No. 15 St. Edwards, and No. 14 Hawaii Pacific. The women’s tennis team went 4-0 over the week taking down Northeastern State and No. 13 Grand Canyon and remained perfect in GSC play, defeating West Georgia and Valdosta State. Senior Carlos Rodriguez (Cali, Colombia/Austin Peay) led the No. 7 West Florida men’s golf team to a second place finish at Argonaut Invitational winning his third tournament win of the season. The women’s golf team placed sixth in their final regular season tournament, the Agnes McAmis Memorial.

Camila Sevillano (Cali, Colombia/La Arboleda) was the Argonauts’ top finisher, placing eighth overall at 5-over par (71-78 - 149) at Agnes McAmis Memorial. Sevillano help UWF to a sixth place finish.

Kevin Ducros
Junior
Men’s Tennis
Kevin Ducros (Aix-en-Provence, France) and the UWF men's tennis team had another stellar week, defeating No. 19 UC San Diego, No. 17 Grand Canyon, No. 15 Saint Edwards and No. 14 Hawaii Pacific.  Ducros went 3-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles, including win over nationally ranked No. 4 Petr Michnev of Hawaii Pacific.  Ducros and doubles teammate Bruno Savi are the 2 ranked doubles tandem in the Nation and the 1 ranked tandem in the South Region.

Juan Miguel Heredia
Freshman
Men’s Golf
Juan Miguel Heredia (Cuenca, Ecuador/Jacksonville State) finished strong at the Argonaut Invitational with a 71 in the second round and a 72 in the final round, finishing tied for seventh (76-71-72 - 219) and helping UWF finish second overall as a team.  Heredia, in his first top 10 finish as an Argonaut, led the tournament field with a 2-under performance on par 3s.
