GAME NOTES: Week 10

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Argonauts, now ranked seventh in the South Region, are coming down the home stretch of the 2012 regular season. UWF has a pair of crucial doubleheaders this weekend starting on Saturday with West Georgia and Sunday against No. 1 Valdosta State. Saturday's games will start at noon with Sunday's action kicking off at 2 p.m.

REGIONAL RANKINGS
The University of West Florida softball team finds itself ranked No. 7 in the first round of the NCAA South Regional rankings, it was announced Wednesday. The Argonauts, now 27-17 and 11-7 in the Gulf South Conference, are on par to make their first NCAA Regional Tournament since the 2009-10 season with the top eight teams in the regional rankings making the cut.
GSC STANDINGS
After reaching second place in the GSC standings two weeks ago, the Argos now find themselves tied for third place with West Alabama. The Tigers swept the Argos during the conference opener for both teams with another crucial doubleheader on April 18, in Livingston, Ala., still on the schedule. No. 1 Valdosta State remains a perfect 20-0 in the GSC and is one spot ahead of No. 22 Alabama-Huntsville.
JOHANSEN STEALING THE SHOW
West Florida Newcomer Emma Johansen is now in second place in the league in terms of stolen bases. The junior transfer has swiped 22 stolen bases so far this year and still has plenty of time to catch UAH’s Kelli Long (27) for the top spot in the GSC.
STRIKE OUTS LOOKING
The West Florida pitching staff continues to lead the league in batters struck out looking with 70. Sarah Scott continues to lead the strike out category for the Argos, sitting down an impressive 62 batters. Jordan Ratliff and Ashliegh McLean are each tied with 44 strike outs.
VS. RANKED OPPONENTS
The Argos are 1-4 on the year when playing opponents ranked in the top 25 nationally this season. UWF took a one run loss to No. 12 Armstrong Atlantic State before being swept by then No. 3 Valdosta State. West Florida took their first win over a ranked opponent two weeks ago when they grabbed one of two from No. 18 Alabama-Huntsville.
LAST TIME VS. WEST GEORGIA
The Argos had no trouble grabbing the sweep from West Georgia on March 17, in Carrollton, Ga., taking game one 9-1 before winning the second, 6-1.
LAST TIME VS. VALDOSTA STATE
UWF managed just one run in a pair of games earlier this year at Valdosta, Ga., losing game one 9-1 and the second, 4-0.
