Bryson Hurls Argos to 8-1 Win Over Tigers

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida baseball team defeated Gulf South Conference opponent West Alabama 8-1 Sunday. Argonaut starter Drew Bryson (Cullman, Ala./Wallace State-Hanceville CC (Cullman HS) went the distance and was one out away from a shutout. With the win the Argos take the series from West Alabama and improve to 28-13 overall and 8-9 in the GSC.
In the first inning West Florida capitalized on back-to-back West Alabama errors to score their first run of the game and extended their lead, 2-0, on a Dustin Saulmon (Panama City, Fla./Alabama Southern CC (A. Crawford Mosley HS) sacrifice fly. The Argos tacked on two more runs in the second inning taking advantage of two UWA miscues scoring a run on a balk and a wild pitch, increasing their lead to 4-0.
UWF tacked on another run, 5-0, in the third inning on a two out RBI single by Taye Larry (Panama City, Fla./Wallace State CC-Dothan (Mosley HS). The Argos surged for three more runs, 8-0, in the sixth inning with two outs on RBI hits by Billy O'Connor (West Palm Beach, Fla./Broward College (Wellington & American Heritage HS) and Korey Domenick (Festus, Mo./Mineral Area (Festus HS).
Argonaut starter Drew Bryson would take a shutout into the ninth inning. After getting two quick outs in the inning the Tigers loaded the bases and were able to scratch across their only run of the game on a wild pitch. It was not enough though as Bryson would hold on to collect his second win of the season in the Argos 8-1 victory. The southpaw allowed one run on nine hits while fanning three. UWA’s Brett Ivey received the loss allowing five runs on five hits in three innings of work.
UWF was led offensively by O'Connor and Larry. O'Connor was 4-4 with two runs and a RBI while Larry was 3-5 with two runs and a RBI.
