Argos Rally to Down Spring Hill 9-6

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida baseball team overcame a four run deficit Wednesday night to come from behind and beat NAIA opponent Spring Hill at Jim Spooner Field 9-6. With the win the Argonauts improve to 29-13 overall while the Badgers fall to 20-27 on the year.

Spring Hill jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two out RBI single to left field by Kendell Carvin. The Argonauts answered back in the bottom half of the inning tying the game,1-1, with a Dustin Saulmon (Panama City, Fla./Alabama Southern CC (A. Crawford Mosley HS) sacrifice fly to score Taye Larry (Panama City, Fla./Wallace State CC-Dothan (Mosley HS).

The Badgers regained the lead in the top of the third inning with a three run bomb by Fred Rossi. SHC increased their lead, 5-1, in the inning with a two out RBI base hit by Justin Martin. UWF cut into Spring Hill’s lead, 5-3, plating two runs on back-to-back wild pitches in the bottom of the fifth inning.

UWF took the lead, 9-5,  with a six run sixth inning scoring runs on RBI hits by Andrew Rodriguez (Key West, Fla./Miami Dade College (Key West HS), Josh Huggins (Bay Minette, Ala./Faulkner State CC (Baldwin County HS), Blake Barber (LaGrange, Ga./Shelton State CC (Troup HS) and Leo Lamarche (Miami, Fla./Wallace State CC-Dothan (Krop HS). The Badgers cut in the Argos lead, 6-9, crossing a run on a RBI fielder’s choice by Justin Martin in the seventh but was not enough as UWF would hold on to win 9-6.

Brian Ellington (Gainesville, Fla./Florida State College at Jacksonville (Oak Hall HS) got the start on the mound for UWF and allowed four runs on four hits in 2.2 innings of work while fanning two. Jordan DeLorenzo (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park HS) followed in relief and allowed one run on five hits in 3.1 innings of work, grabbing his fifth win of the season. Argonaut close Bobby Parker (Tallahassee, Fla./Alabama Southern CC (Lawton Chiles HS) recorded his 12 save of the year tossing a perfect ninth inning. Spring Hill’s Cyrus Beerman received the loss in relief allowing four runs on three hits in 0.2 innings of work.
