The Argonauts now sit at 31-21 on the season and 15-11 in the Gulf South Conference with just two more games remaining on the regular season schedule. The Chargers moved to 35-12 overall and 17-7 in the league standings with the pair of wins.
GAME ONE: West Florida 2, Alabama-Huntsville 19 (5 inn.)
The Argos couldn’t stifle the hot Charger bats as UAH walked away with the 19-2 win in just five innings of play.
West Florida picked up the first run for either team in the ballgame, scoring on a Kasie Buckley (Little Rock, Miss./East Central CC) RBI single in the top of the first to make it 1-0.
But the Chargers responded, scoring a pair in the bottom of the first on three hits and an Argo error to go up for good, 2-0.
UAH then proceeded to score 17 runs in the next three innings on four home runs, 16 hits and three UWF errors to take the mercy rule win.
The only other Argo run came in the fourth with Crystal Thompson (Bonifay, Fla./Gulf Coast CC) scoring on a Charger fielding error.
GAME TWO: West Florida 3, Alabama-Huntsville 11 (6 Inn.)
The Argos held a lead until the fifth inning on the Chargers in game two before allowing eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to lose it, 11-3.
West Florida again scored in the top of the first, this time on a Thompson RBI single to right field that scored Sara Scott (Tallahassee, Fla./Tallahassee CC).
The Argos then added to their lead in the second with another run on an Emma Johansen (Johnston City, Ill./Gulf Coast State College) RBI single to center to put UWF up, 2-0.
The Chargers made it a 2-1 game in the bottom half of the second before scratching across eight in the home half of the fifth to go up, 10-1.
Ashliegh McLean (McKinney, Texas/McLennan CC) singled home Lauren Correia (Mary Esther, Fla./Fort Walton Beach HS) in the sixth but it was too little to late as the Chargers put across two more in the bottom half to end it, 11-3.
Johansen finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI while Scott was 2-for-3.
The Argos will play their final two regular season games of 2012 Sunday as they head to North Alabama for a doubleheader. For more on West Florida softball and information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
