O'Connor Named GSC Baseball Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior catcher Billy O'Connor (West Palm Beach, Fla./Broward) of the West Florida baseball team was named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday morning. O’Connor led the UWF lineup to a big week on offense, as the team averaged nearly 12 runs per game in three wins.
O’Connor hit 5-7 at the plate in three games for a .714 batting average, including one double. The junior also scored six runs and drove in four, and he was on base consistently, drawing five walks and posting a .857 on-base percentage for the week. O’Connor is now hitting .357 to lead the team this season, and his .490 on-base percentage ranks third in the GSC.
The Argos (31-13, 10-9 GSC) are coming off a 3-0 week, picking up wins over Spring Hill and West Georgia. One more week remains in the regular season, as the Argos travel east to face rival Valdosta State (23-16, 12-8) in a three-game series on April 28-29. VSU is in fourth place in the league standings, while West Florida is in sixth. The Argos will look to move up in the standings to earn a higher seed for the GSC Tournament on May 4-8 in Rome, Ga.
