BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior catcher Billy O'Connor (West Palm Beach, Fla./Broward) of the West Florida baseball team was named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday morning.  O’Connor led the UWF lineup to a big week on offense, as the team averaged nearly 12 runs per game in three wins.

O’Connor hit 5-7 at the plate in three games for a .714 batting average, including one double.  The junior also scored six runs and drove in four, and he was on base consistently, drawing five walks and posting a .857 on-base percentage for the week.  O’Connor is now hitting .357 to lead the team this season, and his .490 on-base percentage ranks third in the GSC.

The Argos (31-13, 10-9 GSC) are coming off a 3-0 week, picking up wins over Spring Hill and West Georgia.  One more week remains in the regular season, as the Argos travel east to face rival Valdosta State (23-16, 12-8) in a three-game series on April 28-29.  VSU is in fourth place in the league standings, while West Florida is in sixth.  The Argos will look to move up in the standings to earn a higher seed for the GSC Tournament on May 4-8 in Rome, Ga.

First pitch for the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader at Valdosta State is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.  For information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
