Rodriguez Headlines Argonauts on All-GSC Men's Golf Team
Black Becomes Third Four-Time All-GSC Golfer in GSC History

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second straight year, West Florida boasted the Gulf South Conference Men’s Golf Player of the Year as senior Carlos Rodriguez (Cali, Colombia/Austin Peay) took home this year’s honor on Monday. Rodriguez and two other Argonauts were named to the All-GSC team, and Juan Miguel Heredia (Cuenca, Ecuador/Jacksonville State) was named GSC Freshman of the Year.
Rodriguez posted a historic season for the Argonauts, tying a UWF record with three tournament victories. The senior currently leads the team with a 71.17 scoring average in 30 rounds played. Rodriguez posted a fourth-place finish at the GSC Tournament, which secured him a spot for the second consecutive season on the GSC All-Tournament team and All-GSC first team.
Senior Ryan Black (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Lincoln Park Academy) headlined the All-GSC team by becoming just the third four-time All-GSC first team honoree in league history. Black follows only Troy State’s Ben Bates (1980-81, 1983-84) and Arkansas Tech’s Jared Carlyle (2006-09) to earn four all-league honors. Black finished the year with two top 10 finishes in nine tournaments with an average score of 73.52.
Rodriguez and Black were joined on the All-GSC team by senior Thomas Guste-Pedersen (Helle, Norway/Frank Phillips). The senior finished the year with a 73.03 scoring average in 30 rounds in his final year at UWF, highlighted by three top five finishes.
Heredia became the fifth Argonaut in six years to be named GSC Freshman of the Year. Heredia competed in five tournaments, averaging a score of 74.00. His season was highlighted by a top 10 finish at the Argonaut Invitational.
North Alabama head coach Stuart Clark claimed the GSC Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons after guiding the Lions to their third GSC title in four years.
The Argonauts will head to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional in Conover, N.C. on May 7-9. Fans will be able to follow the action through live scoring available at www.GolfStat.com. For information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
