BIRMINGHAM, Ala.Camila Sevillano of the West Florida women’s golf team became the third player in the seven-year history of the Gulf South Conference to be named GSC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in the same season, as the conference office announced the All-GSC team on Monday.  Sevillano and fellow freshman Aimee Paterson (Sherfield on Loddon, England/Queen Mary's) were two of the five players honored on the All-GSC team.

Sevillano follows Central Arkansas’ Nicole Forshner (2006) and UWF’s Bhavna Shetty (four-time GSC Player of the Year) as the previous owners of both honors in the same year.  Sevillano capped the season by winning individual medalist honors at the GSC Tournament. The Cali, Columbia native led the field with a 36-hole score of 158 (+16) and the Argonauts to a sixth GSC championship.  She competed in 10 tournaments in her first year in Pensacola, leading the team with a 79.27 scoring average.

Sevillano was joined on the All-GSC team by another teammate, freshman Aimee Paterson (Sherfield on Loddon, England/Queen Mary's).  Paterson placed third at the GSC Tournament, finishing the two rounds 23-over par (83-82 - 165). She finished the year with an 80.68 scoring average in 22 rounds in her first year at UWF.

GSC Champion West Florida and tournament runner-up West Georgia each posted two players on the All-GSC Team, while Christian Brothers added its first-ever honoree. All five members of the 2012 All-GSC team are freshman.  Barry Harwell completed his first season leading West Georgia by capturing the GSC Coach of the Year.  Harwell guided the Wolves to a second-place finish at this year’s GSC Tournament with only one upperclassman on the roster.

The Argonauts were not selected in the nine-team field for the NCAA Division II Super Regional Two, including teams from the Conference Carolinas, Gulf South Conference, Peach Belt Conference, South Atlantic Conference and Sunshine State Conference.  For information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
