GAME NOTES: GSC Tournament
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida baseball team heads to the Gulf South Conference tournament this weekend in Rome, Ga. The Argonauts are looking to capture the programs second conference championship and defend their 2011 National Championship. UWF will face Alabama-Huntsville in round one of the GSC tournament on Friday at 1 p.m. ET.
The Argos are 24-10 all-time against Alabama-Huntsville with UWF taking 2-3 games from the Chargers earlier this season on the road at UAH.
Argos in the GSC Tournament:
The Argos look to grab their second Gulf South Conference title, their sole championship was in 2007, this weekend as they head to Rome, Ga. for the GSC tournament. UWF is 11-11 this season in conference play and will take on Alabama-Huntsville in round one Friday at 1 p.m. ET.
Records are Made to be Broken:
Taye Larry leads the UWF baseball team and the GSC in stolen bases this season with 33 which ranks sixth in the West Florida records books for stolen bases in a single season. In his two year career as an Argo, Larry has swiped 59 bags which lands him sixth all-time in the West Florida record books for stolen bases in a career. Bobby Parker leads the GSC and the UWF baseball team in saves this season with 13. Parker’s 13 saves is just one save away from matching the UWF single season saves record of 14 held by Phil Lawhorn and Shane Waller.
The West Florida baseball team landed eight players on this year’s All-GSC Team, the second most of any GSC school. On the first team the Argos field Josh Huggins, who was a 2011 second team selection, Taye Larry and Bobby Parker. On the second team West Florida fields Blake Barber, Dustin Saulmon, Brian Ellington, Jake Stephens and Jordan DeLorenzo.
