Stephens Named South Region Pitcher of the Week
DALLAS, Tex. – Argonaut starting pitching Jake Stephens (Marietta, Ga./Northwest Florida State College (Lassiter HS) was named the South Region pitcher of the week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, it was announced by the NCBWA on Thursday. The West Florida baseball team is 34-17 on the year and awaits the NCAA selection show this Sunday May 13 at 9 p.m.
Stephen’s hurled a complete game shutout while facing the minimum number of batters, 21, in UWF’s 10-0 mercy rule victory over Valdosta State at the Gulf South Conference tournament in an elimination game. Stephen’s surrendered just two hits, issued one walk and struck out six batters tossing his third complete game capturing his sixth win of the season.
