West Florida Sweeps GSC All-Sports Trophies for Third Time
Argos Win 10th Women’s All-Sports Trophy and Fourth Men’s All-Sports Trophy

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the third time in school history, the University of West Florida earned the Gulf South Conference Men’s and Women’s All-Sports Trophy in the same year, it was announced by the league office on Thursday. The all-sports trophy is awarded based on each school’s performance in every league sport, and the Argonauts outpaced seven other conference schools to win both the men’s and women’s trophy.
West Florida’s sweep of the men’s and women’s all-sports trophy is the third in school history, with the other two coming in 1997-98 and 2006-07. The sweep also marks the ninth in the league’s 30-year history of awarding both men’s and women’s all-sports trophies.
This year marks the 10th total women’s all-sports trophy for UWF, including a league-record seven straight. The Argonauts (37.5 points) outpaced second place Valdosta State (32.0) in the women’s all-sports standings, thanks to league titles in cross country, golf, tennis and volleyball. The Argos were also league semifinalists in women’s soccer.
The men’s all-sports trophy is the fourth in school history, with the last coming in 2006-07. The UWF men’s teams placed no lower than fourth in any sport, including a league championship in tennis. The Argos were also runners-up in cross country, golf and soccer. UWF totaled 33.5 points, while Alabama-Huntsville came in second with 27.0.
The GSC will present the all-sports trophies at its annual awards banquet on Monday, June 25 at the Hilton Birmingham/Perimeter Park in Birmingham, Ala. At that time, the GSC will also recognize its “Top Ten” student-athletes and reveal male and female winners of the GSC Commissioner’s Trophy. The “Top Ten” and Commissioner’s Trophy awards are presented to the most outstanding student-athletes in the league based on athletic, academic, extracurricular and community service criteria.
