UWF Cross Country Announces 2012 Fall Schedule

PENSACOLA, Fla. – University of West Florida men’s and women’s cross country head coach John Bergen has announced the teams’ schedules for the 2012 fall season. The Argonauts are set to open up the season at the USF Golden Gate Invite hosted by the University of San Francisco, and will play host to the annual Gulf Coast Stampede in Pensacola, Fla. as the teams’ lone home event.
After returning from the west coast for the first meet of the season, the Argonauts will compete in Alabama for two consecutive meets. U¬WF will compete in the Fleet Feet Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama-Huntsville on Sept. 8 where the women’s and men’s teams finished in first and second place, respectively, a season ago. UWF will wrap up their Cotton State tour in Mobile, Ala. for the USA Invitational hosted by the University of South Alabama on Sept. 15.
The UWF cross country teams will once again play host to the Gulf Coast Stampede, at the Escambia County Equestrian Center in Pensacola on Sept. 22. Last season’s men’s cross country team finished runner up at the Gulf Coast Stampede, while the women finished fourth.
After the home meet, UWF will travel to Tallahassee, Fla. for the FSU Invitational before wrapping up the regular season at the Chili Pepper Festival hosted by the University of Arkansas on Oct. 13.
The Argos women’s team will look to defend their 2011 GSC championship this season in Hoover, Ala. on Oct. 20, and the men’s squad will look to improve on their runner-up finish from 2011. This year’s NCAA South Regional will be held in Huntsville, Ala. on Nov. 3, while the NCAA Championships will be hosted by Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo. on Nov. 17.
