2012 Women's Soccer Game Notes:
8/30 vs. Belmont Abbey, Mount Olive
The Argonauts finished their 17th consecutive season with a winning record and 12th consecutive season with a winning percentage of .750 or more in 2011. They have made the Gulf South Conference Tournament seven straight times and won it four times during that span.
After losing two of his top three goal scorers from 2011, Head Coach Joe Bartlinski looked to junior colleges to reload in 2012. The Argonauts added 11 student-athletes to the roster for 2012, including six transfers. Five of the transfers played in the National Junior College Athletics Association Division I national championship game last season.
UWF was picked to finish second in the GSC in the conference’s preseason coaches’ poll. The Argos finished 2011 tied with North Alabama atop the GSC standings with the best conference record, but lost the head-to-head tiebreaker.
UWF also landed three players on the GSC preseason all-conference team: defenders Daniela Cruz (San Jose, Costa Rica/University of Costa Rica) and Rachel Cutts (Pace, Fla./Ole Miss) and midfielder Monica Malavassi (San Jose, Costa Rica/Methodist HS).
