PENSACOLA, Fla. – A capacity crowd at Brosnaham Park witnessed a battle between the West Florida and No. 17 Rollins men’s soccer teams on Friday night, but unfortunately for the home team, Rollins escaped with a 2-1 win. The Tars won the contest thanks to a goal in the 89th minute. Fernando Silveira (Brasilia, Brazil) scored UWF’s lone goal in the loss.
Silveira put West Florida (0-2) on top early with a goal at the 6:34 mark. The junior received a pass from Nick Salafrio (Gainesville, Fla.) and slotted it inside the post, giving UWF its first goal of the season. Rollins (2-0-1) was able to tie the score in the 33rd minute on a corner kick, as Walker Hume headed in a serve by Skyler Russell.
The score would remain tied at one apiece until late in the match. Rollins mounted an attack with less than two minutes on the clock, and Russell fed a pass to Evan Greenbaum, who buried a shot in the back of the net. The Argos couldn’t muster an attack in the final minute, and Rollins walked away the victor.
The Argos will look to recover on Sunday with a match versus Florida Southern at 3 p.m. For information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
