SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The West Florida women’s golf team started the 2012-13 season strong under the guidance of new head coach Bryan Clarke by combining for 309, just five strokes off the pace after the first round of the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate Monday.

Camila Sevillano (Cali, Colombia/La Arboleda) fired a two-over-par 72 on the 5,811 yard The Sevierville-Highlands course and is poised to strike for medalist honors as she is just four strokes back in second place from first day leader Kimesha Anthony of Columbus State, the only player in the field who finished under par with a 68.

Freshman Elin Olsson (Mantorp, Sweden/Bildningscentrum Facetten) is also among the top-10 in her collegiate debut after carding 75 to tie for seventh. Luisa Villar Uquiza (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Saint Mary of the Hills School), also playing in her first collegiate tournament, is tied for 26th after shooting 80.
 
Newberry and California University-Pennsylvania are deadlocked in first place after identical scores of 304. Columbus State leads West Florida by three strokes in third place, and Lincoln Memorial (312) rounds out the top-five.

Daisy-May Kenny (Purley, England/Woodcote HS) the third of the trio of freshman competing for the Argonauts, shot 82 and is tied for 36th. Agustina Cocha (Salta, Argentina/Colegio Santa Maria) completed the lineup tied for 59th with 88.
