PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 24 West Florida volleyball team took more than a 10 point lead in its final two sets to secure a dominant 3-0 sweep (25-22, 25-13, 25-12) over conference foe West Georgia Friday evening in the UWF Field House. The victory was the start of Gulf South Conference play for both teams, and the Argonauts improved to 4-5, 1-0 GSC.

Sarah Scott (Plainfield, Ill./Texas-San Antonio) and Lindsay Homme (Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale Central HS) each had double-digit outings in just three sets with 13 and 12 kills, respectively, at strong .462 and .529 clips. Sierra Hansen (Layton, Utah/Southern Idaho) collected 22 assists and Colleen Starrs (West Bloomfield, Mich./Walled Lake Central HS) led defensively with 13 digs.

The closest contested set was the first as West Georgia (5-5, 0-1 GSC) tied up the score twice and put a little scare through UWF when a kill gave the Wolves a 22-20 lead. The Argonauts were not phased, however, and closed out with the final five points that included three straight kills by Autumn Duyn (Venice, Fla./Venice HS) and Scott to win 25-22.

UWF allowed no doubt of which team would be the victor in the final two sets, as it mounted a 13-3 advantage in the second frame on a five point spree and maintained for a 25-13 win. A narrower deficit persisted in the final game until the 9-5 mark, when Hansen took service for eight consecutive points to build an 18-6 lead and shut down West Georgia 25-12.

Lesley Bemis was the Wolves’ leading scorer with eight kills. Amanda Miller contributed 21 assists, and Emily Reul and Melissa Holt had eight and seven digs apiece.

The Argonauts continue action at home tomorrow afternoon when they face GSC opponent Shorter at 1 p.m. in the UWF Fieldhouse. For information on all UWF athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
