Tennis team begins play at USTA/ITA South Regional

Men’s team goes 2-0 in doubles and 5-2 in singles on opening day

LAKELAND, Fla. – On the first day of the men’s USTA/ITA South Regional, the West Florida tennis team went 5-2 in singles matches and 2-0 in doubles competition.

The matches were hosted by Florida Southern and held at the Wynee Warden Complex on the FSC campus.

The pair of Elio Latela (Sydney, Australia) and Bruno Savi (Santana do Livramento, Brazil/Auburn Montgomery) and the pair of Kevin Ducros (Aix-en-Provence, France) and Tony Rajaobelina each received a first-round bye and won their second-round matches to advance to the quarterfinals in doubles.

All four Argos received a first-round bye in singles competition. Latela, Savi and Rajaobelina each won their first round matches while Ducros lost his.

Latela was eliminated in the third round, but Savi and Rajaobelina advanced to the quarterfinals.

Friday’s matches will be held at the Beermann Family Tennis Center at 8:30 a.m. ET.
