GAME NOTES: No. 23 West Florida hosts Valdosta State, travels to Mobile

Argonauts return home after four matches on the road

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 23 West Florida volleyball team returns home Thursday to continue Gulf South Conference action as part of Homecoming Week when it faces Valdosta State at 7 p.m. in the UWF Fieldhouse. The Argonauts follow-up with a match at Mobile in Mobile, Ala., Saturday at 4 p.m.

Four Weeks in a Row
The Argonauts checked into the AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll for the fourth straight week after taking down West Alabama 3-2 last Thursday. West Florida is the No. 23 team in the nation, and they are still the only GSC team even receiving votes in the national poll.

Double-Doubles
Five different Argonauts have had a double-double this season, combining for 21 total between them. Autumn Duyn leads West Florida with nine, accounting for a double-double in more than half the matches this season including three out of the last four outings. Haley Shackelford has five double-doubles, and Sierra Hansen and K.C. Dobbins have three.

Argonauts Statistically in the GSC
Five different Argonauts are ranked in the top-10 of at least one category in the GSC, highlighted by Sarah Scott, who ranks first in blocks per set (0.97) and sixth in hitting percentage (.276). Others include Autumn Duyn who is fourth in digs per set (3.66) and Sierra Hansen who is fifth in assists per set (7.02).

Duyn a Force on Both Sides
Autumn Duyn starts as an outside hitter, but defensively she’s as strong as when she’s hammering the ball onto the court. She leads West Florida in defense, averaging 3.66 digs per set in addition to her 2.76 kills per set. Her 216 digs is 34 more than libero Colleen Starrs, which is on track to surpass her team second-best amount of 304 from 2011.

Facing Valdosta State
The first of two face-offs this season, the Blazers travel to Pensacola for UWF’s Homecoming Week match on Thursday. Valdosta State is 11-5 overall and 4-3 in GSC play, and have won their last three matches. The Blazers are 3-2 on the road and UWF is 4-3 at home.

Facing Mobile
Neighboring opponent Mobile and West Florida face off for the sixth time in their series Saturday, which UWF leads 4-1. An NAIA member, the Rams are 14-6 on the year and are 6-2 at home.

Record-Breaking Outing
Not only did West Florida sweep Union on Sept. 22, but it did so in a dominating fashion offensively which ultimately set a new school record for attack percentage as a team. The Argonauts hits .600 collectively, which beat the previous record of .500 easily. Six Argonauts hit .500 or higher individually, led by Lindsay Homme, who ranks seventh all-time in attack rate for a single match after 12 kills at a .733 clip.
