HOOVER, Ala. – The University of West Florida women’s cross country team won its second consecutive Gulf South Conference Championship today with a team score of 44. West Florida had four runners finish in the top 10 and the Argonauts posted their lowest team score at a conference championship. This marks the third conference championship in UWF women's cross country history ('96, '11 and '12).
"I am very happy for our team today and very proud of the hard work they have put in as a group this year," head coach John Bergen said. "We've given the team some harder workouts in the past year and they have responded."
Junior Renea Porsch crossed the finish line first for UWF and fifth overall (20:19.10) on the 5,000-meter course. Porsch earns her first All-GSC First Team honor with the finish and receives her second consecutive All-GSC selection.
Senior Karyssa Tourelle-Fallon finished sixth overall (20:30.70) and earns her third consecutive All-GSC First Team accolade. Tourelle-Fallon now sits amongst a select group of conference runners with her finish, as she becomes only the second UWF runner to earn three All-GSC First Team awards in a career.
Sophomore Kelley Bahn finished seventh overall (20:38.40) and third for UWF. This is the second consecutive year Bahn has finished amongst the top 10 finishers at the conference championship.
Senior Sabrina Seignemartin earned the first All-GSC First Team honor of her career today by finishing ninth overall (20:44.80). Sophomore Keyanna Dennis finished 17th overall (21:10.30) and earns her second consecutive All-GSC Second Team honor.
This marks the second GSC title in head coach John Bergen’s five-year tenure as head coach. Voting for GSC Coach of the Year will take place on Monday and will be released on www.GoArgos.com.
