Heredia tied for fourth after first day of Georgetown Intercollegiate

BEALLSVILLE, Md.Juan Miguel Heredia’s even-par 142 paced the No. 14 West Florida men’s golf team on the first day of the Georgetown Intercollegiate on the par-71, 6,953 yard The Member’s Club at Four Streams Monday. The Argonauts, defending champions of the tournament, are tied for eighth overall.

Heredia (Cuenca, Ecuador/Jacksonville State) shot a one-under-par 70 before ending the day with a 72 to tie for fourth individually in the 66-player field. The sophomore is within striking distance of first place held by Brian Churchill Smith of Eastern Michigan, who stands at four-under-par 138 total.

The Argonauts fired 295 in the first round before capping the day with 298 for a combined score of 593, nine strokes out of the top five. Toledo leads the field with 575 total, and Notre Dame is one stroke back in second while Michigan State completes the top three.

Freshman Spencer Olson (Pensacola, Fla./Pace HS) shot identical rounds of 73 to total 146 and tie for 17th. Talin Rajendranath (San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago/Naparima College) opened with 75 and shot 153 total after closing with 78 to tie for 47th. Gary Buffington III (Tampa, Fla./Chamberlain HS) and Kyle Lucas (Johannesburg, South Africa/Western Texas College) are two and three strokes back from Rajendranath, respectively, in ties for 56th and 59th.
