PENSACOLA, Fla. – Junior second baseman Kaleb Barlow (Florence, Miss./Chipola) drove in five runs, including four on a grand slam, to lead the No. 6 West Florida baseball team to an 11-1 run-rule victory over Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday night. Barlow and the Argonauts lineup reached the 10-run mark for the fourth time this season, and senior left-hander Josh Tanski (Apopka, Fla./Pensacola State) got the win while pitching five scoreless innings.

The win was the seventh in a row for the Argonauts, and it also improved the team’s record at Jim Spooner Field to 10-0. UWF improved to 16-3 overall, and the Delta Devils dropped to 2-16.

Barlow finished the day 3-for-5, and the grand slam in the fifth inning marked his third home run of the year. His five RBIs were the most for an Argonaut in a single game this year.

“With runners on, I was looking to get a hit and get a couple runners in,” said Barlow. “I was just looking for a base hit, and it just kept going. I’m always looking to get a line drive or a ground ball through the hole somewhere. To get runners in, any way you can, it’s always a good thing.”

Four other Argonauts had multi-hit games, including three freshmen Alex Greene (Orlando, Fla./Hagerty HS), Kyle Hamner (Maitland, Fla./Edgewater HS) and Chase Kiefer (Pensacola, Fla./Pensacola Catholic HS). Greene, Hamner and Kiefer are all now hitting over .300 this year as freshmen. Senior outfielder Drew Prichard (Mobile, Ala./Troy) also finished the day 2-for-4 with a pair of runs.

Tanski was effective in his first start of the year, limiting Mississippi Valley State to two hits and no walks through five innings. The left-hander struck out four batters and improved to 1-1 with the win.

“I was trying to locate and work on some different stuff,” said Tanski. “We’re still in a grind, and we have plenty of pitchers trying to get their work in. I was happy to come in and do the job to get the win.”

Jonathan Parker (0-2) got the start on the mound for the Delta Devils, and he allowed all 11 runs, nine earned, in six-plus innings.

The Argos will finish the series against Mississippi Valley State in a doubleheader on Wednesday, and first pitch for the first game is scheduled for 3 p.m. For information on all UWF athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
