Torchia Named ITA South Region Rookie of the Year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - While preparing for his first appearance in the NCAA Division II National Championships, freshman Alberto Torchia was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Region Rookie Player of the Year on Tuesday. Torchia is the second Argonaut to earn ITA South Region Rookie Player of the Year honors. Radovan Chrz previously won the award in 2001.
Entering Tuesday's Round of 16 match against Armstrong Atlantic, Torchia was ranked 27th in singles with a 14-9 record. He also combined with Eduardo Cavasotti to form the fourth-ranked doubles team. Torchia and Cavasotti tallied a 21-9 record. Torchia was also named to the All-Gulf South Conference First Team.
Torchia and his Argonaut teammates face Armstrong Atlantic on Tuesday in the Round of 16 at the national championships in Kansas City, Mo.
