Nicholson Shines in NCAA National Second Round

LONGWOOD, FLA. - It was an excellent day for UWF's Sarah Nicholson in the NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Tournament at The Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes.

Nicholson made a move from 15th place all the way up to a three-way tie at fifth after shooting just 74 (+2) today to add to yesterday's score of 79. Her total score now is 153 (+9). Leading the tournament is Rollins' Mariana De Biase. She shot an even 72 today and a 74 yesterday for 146 strokes (+2) setting a new two round NCAA Division II Women's Record.

"I feel pretty good! I shot one-under on the front nine today, and I'm so happy that I did so much better on the back nine than yesterday by five strokes," says Nicholson. "I am very excited about the next two days and hope to continue to play well."

South Region champion Rollins College, ranked No. 1 in the nation, still have a convincing lead, now 24 strokes ahead of Ferris State. RC posts a total score of 606 (+30), and FSU is 630 (+59). Florida Southern moved into a tie at third with Northeastern State with a total score of 635 (+59).

The tournament schedule is four rounds in four days, ending on Saturday. Nicholson is a natural freshman on the UWF golf roster from Cedar Falls, Iowa (Cedar Falls High School).
