COLUMBUS, Ga. - Less than 24 hours after dropping their season-opener in Pensacola, third-ranked West Florida only lost one match en route to a convincing 8-1 win over 12th ranked South Carolina-Upstate on Saturday. West Florida evened their record at 1-1, while South Carolina-Upstate fell to 2-1.
West Florida swept the doubles matches, including the first win of the season for the top-ranked doubles team of Tammy Kevey (Auckland, New Zealand/Diocesan School for Girls) and Mandy Septoe (Port Elizabeth, South Africa/Auburn Montgomery).
In the singles competition, West Florida won five of the six matches in straight sets. Anne Claire Beard (Villevaude, France/Chelles HS) did not drop a game in her match, and Kevey only lost two games for her first singles win of the season.
West Florida will face seventh-ranked Columbus State on Sunday at 12 p.m. EST.
