Argonauts Fall at Florida Gulf Coast
FORT MYERS , FLA. - West Florida was hit with a loss on the road tonight at Florida Gulf Coast University. The Eagles dropped the Argonauts 89-71 in South Region action. UWF falls to 5-4, and FGCU improves their overall record to 8-3.
The Eagles jumped out to a 16-7 lead in the first six minutes and held a steady advantage over the Argonauts throughout the first half. FGCU led 41-28 at the break. Toward the end of the second half, Florida Gulf Coast amassed their biggest lead of 29 points with an 87-58 score at 2:57. UWF outscored the Eagles 13-2 to wrap up the contest.
Bryan Richardson posted his fifth 20+ points game with 21 going 7-for-15 from the floor and 4-for-9 from beyond the arc. Kashif Russell and Ray Lewis each racked up 11 points for West Florida. Tuck Taylor led the Argonauts' rebounding with five as FGCU grabbed 40 boards compared to UWF's 21 total. Josh Sullivan dished out five assists, and Russell made the Argonauts' only steal of the game.
Ryan Hopkins led the Eagles' scoring with 20 points, 7-for-15 from the floor and 6-for-13 from three-point range. Bryan Crislip had 19 points, 6-for-11 from the floor and 5-for-8 from beyond the arc. Juan Cedeno led FGCU rebounding with 10 boards and had a double-double with 13 points, and Kelvin Coggins added 12 points. Crislip dished out six assists.
The next event for West Florida is the UWF Hoop Classic 2 on December 29 and 30 at the Pensacola Junior College Milton campus. Game times are at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. each night. The Argonauts play the nightcap both days, Southern Arkansas and Harding, respectively.
