Birmingham, Ala. -- Kaley Morris (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze HS) a junior defender for the No. 3 University of West Florida women's soccer team received her second Gulf South Conference Defender of the Week award of the season which was announced Tuesday morning. The award gives West Florida three out of the four Defender of the Week awards handed out this season by the GSC.
Morris headed a brilliant Argo defense that shutdown the defending National Champions, Tampa on Friday night in a 2-1 victory in Tampa, Fla. The Argos defense limited the No. 23 Spartans to just three shots on goal the entire match.
The Argos remained in Tampa to face Barry University in a neutral site match Sunday afternoon. Morris highlighted a defense that proved to be even stronger than Friday night, holding the Bucs to just three total shots without allowing a single one on goal. In the match, Morris scored her first goal of the season late in the second half to give the Argos a 2-0 victory, their fifth shutout win of the season.
The Lady Argos will host visiting NAIA rival Mobile, tonight at 7:30pm CT at the UWF Soccer Complex.
