Ramsey
Dominates and Fosson Finishes in Sweep of UWA
PENSACOLA,
FLA - West Florida's pitching continued to baffle the West Alabama bats
this afternoon, as the Argos capped off their second consecutive shutout
of West Alabama, 3-0. The Argos swept the three game series from the Tigers
to move into sole possession of first place in the Gulf South Conference
(GSC) East.
In his
first conference start of the season, starter Kyle Ramsey met the challenge
head-on. Ramsey tossed seven complete scoreless innings. He allowed six
hits, and struck out two. Closer Fred Fosson broke the UWF single season
saves record (11) set by Jeremy Noegel in 2003, by shuting down the Tigers
in the game's final two innings. Fosson allowed just one hit. West Alabama
starter Jason Herman (0-1) allowed two runs, one earned, struck out three,
and walked three for the tough luck loss.
West
Florida got on the board in the second inning on an RBI single by Peter
Antoske that scored Brian Rodgers, who led off with a single. Antoske
led off the fourth inning with a double and later scored on an RBI single
by Josh Loosier. The Argos scored their final run in the seventh on an
RBI single by Owen Davis.
The Tigers had runners on second and third with no outs in the fourth and failed to push across any runs. Antoske was 2-for-4 on the day. Dustin Roberts and Seth Loften each had two hits for UWA.
The 19th ranked Argonauts improve to 28-16 overall, and 9-3 in the GSC. West Alabama slides to 28-11 overall, and 6-6 in the conference. West Florida plays a three game series at conference rival Alabama-Huntsville. The Saturday doubleheader begins at 11:00 am.
