Men's Cross Country Scores Second at Blazer Classic

VALDOSTA, GA. - The UWF men's cross country team took a second place finish of five regional teams at the Valdosta State Blazer Classic this morning. Clayton State won the meet, with Valdosta State finishing third, Columbus State in fourth, and Albany State taking fifth place.

Four of five West Florida harriers finished in the top 10. Caleb Carmichael placed second overall to lead the Argos with a time of 25:33.36 in the 8K race, and Michael Padilla finished third in 25:42.25. Danny Bauer came in eighth with a time of 26:36.32, and Ramad Hicks was ninth in 27:00.07. Also for UWF, Craig Henry placed 14th with a time of 27:34.79, Scott Poindexter was 19th in 28:02.38, Eric Connelly came in 25th with a time of 29:27.10, and Adam Russell finished 29th in 30:00.31.

Once again under coach Matt Dobson's leadership, UWF records were broken. Carmichael's time ranks fifth in the UWF Top 10 8K standings, beating his earlier fifth place ranked time of 25:34 at the Florida State Invitational this season. Padilla made his mark in the UWF Record Book at eighth. Seven of UWF's all-time best 8K times have been set during Dobson's tenure since 2001.

Next weekend the Argos look to capture their first Gulf South Conference championship after taking the runner-up spot the last two years. The meet will be held in Memphis, Tennessee on Saturday the 25th.
