KANSAS CITY, Ks. — The University of West Florida women’s soccer team once again will find themselves behind Seattle Pacific University as the No. 2 in the nation as voted on by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The Lady Argos are one of three teams in the South Region to be represented in the national poll, with Rollins coming in at No. 9 and Gulf South conference foe North Alabama at No. 18.
Last week the Argos competed in only one match against visiting NAIA opponent Warner Pacific College of Portland, Ore. The Argos came out strong posting five goals before the half en route to their 9-0 shutout victory over the Knights. Offensively they were led by Shaneka Gordon (Old Harbour, Jamaica/Community College of Baltimore) who netted a hat trick in the first half and Dernelle Mascall (Basse terre, Moruga, Trinidad/Mobile) who tallied six points coming off two goals and two assists.
In the coming week the Argonauts will square off in three quality matches, two of them on the road. On Tuesday, September 8th the Argos will face NAIA foe Spring Hill College in a match at home before hitting the road this weekend for the first time all season. On Friday, September 11th the No. 2 Argos will travel down to Winter Park, Fla. and face No. 9 Rollins at 5pm ET and then square off with Florida Southern at 2:30pm ET on Sunday in Lakeland, Fla.
