PENSACOLA, Fla. — The University of West Florida men’s soccer team battled a hard fought match to visiting Lambuth University on Senior Day but could not overcome an early deficit as they would drop their final regular season match 3-0. The Eagles would score just 12 seconds into the match to put the Argos in a hole early, one which they could never recover.
Lambuth’s Jonah Powers Myszka netted the game’s first match just 12 seconds into the match. Johan took advantage of a miscommunication on the Argos back line and took the ball for an open net and a 1-0 Eagle lead. The Argo defense would buckle down and keep them in the match for the remainder of the first half.
After the break the Eagle’s Daniel Rowlands and Daniel Erricson both notched headers on set pieces to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead. The three goals by the Eagles came on their only three shots in the match to that point. West Florida controlled the shot count 11-4 in the match but were unable to take advantage of several chances upfront to score.
Next weekend the Argos will take to the pitch in the Gulf South Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed. They enter the tournament looking for their fourth consecutive GSC title and will square off with tomorrow’s winner of the Harding/Ouachita Baptist match.
